What it is

What is MAI-Image-2.5?

MAI-Image-2.5 is an earlier Microsoft AI image model in the MAI-Image family. In public launch materials for 2.6, Microsoft presents 2.5 as the prior quality baseline across Arena categories such as overall ranking, text rendering, portraits, and 3D imagery. This site is not Microsoft; we summarize those published comparisons and offer an independent browser workspace where currently enabled MAI models can be tried.

Why 2.5 still matters

Capabilities teams already relied on

Even after 2.6, 2.5 remains useful context for migration decisions and for workflows that already ship with a validated 2.5 look.

Text rendering baseline

Readable words and layouts were a highlighted 2.5 strength. Microsoft later reported a +91 Elo text-rendering gain for 2.6 over this baseline.

Professional imagery

Launch copy framed 2.5 around professional image and editing workflows suitable for commercial creative work.

Prompt and photo workflows

Public materials describe text or photo prompts with professional image and editing paths rather than a single one-click style.

Comparison anchor for 2.6

Most published 2.6 quality claims are improvements versus 2.5. Keeping the 2.5 reference helps you read Arena and release notes accurately.

Who it is for

Who should still care about MAI-Image-2.5

Choose based on workflow risk, not hype. 2.5 is still relevant when continuity matters; 2.6 is the default for new quality comparisons.

Stay with 2.5 when…

You already have approved campaign assets, client continuity requirements, or templates validated on 2.5 and cannot re-test immediately.

Move to 2.6 when…

You are starting new work, need the published Arena quality jump, or can run a small A/B on real prompts before migrating.

Consider Flash when…

Speed, GPU efficiency, and price-performance matter more than absolute top Elo. Read the Flash guide for that trade-off.
